Kojima Productions showed off a new ten-minute trailer for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach at SXSW 2025. Hideo Kojima has confirmed that the game will launch on June 26 for PS5, with pre-orders starting March 17. The standard edition will cost $69.99.
The trailer offers details about the story and gameplay, including a mysterious character (played by Luca Marinelli) who could be a young version of Cliff Unger. Silence tries to teleport along with Lou, and the deliveries are automated. A plate gate connects the continents, and servers are aligned with the Beach.
Giant BTs show up in kaiju-fight-like confrontations that Sam gets trapped in. The classic gameplay remains, but new new technologies are added, including hover boards for transportation and a terrain rover that traverses water. Sandstorms and other dynamic meteor effects are also present.
The development of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is at its most intensive stage, with studio head Hideo Kojima confirming that the team is going through a physically and mentally demanding period. Kojima Productions is simultaneously working on mixing Japanese voices, interviews, essays and other non-gaming tasks.
Though production has been in the adjustment phase since May 2024, Kojima cites the pressures typical of crisis times, recognized for its impact on developers. The game, which is expected in 2025 on PS5, promises an engaging story, new characters and a recap of the first title for new players.
